REPORT OF STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT ON THE 2023 BUDGET STATEMENT AND ECONOMIC POLICY, ORGANIZED BY ACTION AID GHANA.

On February 8, 2023, a stakeholder engagement event was held at the Coconut Grove Hotel in North Ridge, Accra. Organized by the Tax Justice Coalition Ghana and ActionAid Ghana, the event focused on Ghana’s 2023 Budget Analysis. Mr. Vitus Adaboo Azeem, a consultant at Tax Justice Coalition Ghana, presented his thoughts on the budget. He highlighted the importance of transitioning from regressive to progressive taxes but expressed concerns about implementation. Mr. Azeem also emphasized the need to enhance rent tax compliance and address Ghana’s economic crises caused by living beyond its means. He called for specific plans regarding the Vehicle Income Tax Sticker and Income Tax Stamps Rates. The budget’s policies aimed at progressive taxation were discussed, and the protection of health and education sectors in terms of graduate recruitment was emphasized. The event included a panel discussion, question-and-answer sessions, a snack break, and a second presentation on Debt Restructuring by Mr. Bernard Anaba. Key stakeholders, including Star Ghana, delivered a speech.
