The Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) as part of its mission to ensure quality pre-tertiary education in the country has launched its fund-raising and technical committee. The technical and fundraising committee is a permanent sub-committee under the working committees of GNECC with core mandate to provide technical support to the Coalition. It is a standing committee with goals of raising funds to insure the financial viability and stability of the organization.

The Group has been tasked to serve as the education policy body to the coalition and provide education policy direction, provide financial advice to GNECC and help build the capacity of GNECC members on fundraising and proposal development. It will also engage donors on behalf of GNECC as and when required, represent GNECC at technical education policy dialogues at the national and international level and also support the Coalition develop periodic education policy briefs to promote access to quality, equitable and inclusive education delivery.

There is a need for CSOs to build a stronger and resilient front to ensure the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance and their agencies are responsive to the effective participation of CSOs in education service delivery for quality learning outcomes.

In view of this, GNECC with the support of EOL organized a meeting with other like-minded CSOs, think tanks and research organizations in the education space to strategize on CSO engagement with the government, the Ministries of Finance and Education, and other relevant stakeholders in the education sector in 2024 i.e. AU Year of Education to ensure the commitments by government are turned into action when it comes to education financing at the pre-tertiary level.

The objectives of the meeting included the following

  1. To develop a clear road map for CSOs engagement with government and relevant stakeholders towards the effective implementation of education policies in 2024 and beyond.
  • To develop a national theme and strategic lines of action for Education as the AU Theme of the Year 2024.
  • To discuss possible ways to advocate for the implementation of the Education as the Theme of the Year 2024, and to create more awareness, ownership, and implementation of the CESA 16-25 strategic objectives at all levels.
  • To bring to the attention of AU some of the key gaps in the CESA which have not been fully addressed or identified.

Expected Outcomes

  1. A clear road map for CSO engagement with government and relevant stakeholders for Education as the AU Theme of the Year 2024 developed.

2. Advocacy strategy developed and Increased awareness created on the ownership, and implementation of the CESA 16-25 strategic objectives at all levels.
